Announcing AutoMarks.
The Location bar currently uses data in your history to perform auto-complete of urls as you type them in. If you dont have much history, the autocomplete feature starves and provides you little or no results. This extension allows you to add your bookmarks so they are included in the Autocomplete search.
How to use:
In Firefox:
In the Bookmarks menu, select the Copy bookmarks to Autocomplete.
It will prompt you to confirm, then proceed with the transfer.
In Mozilla:
In the Tools menu, select the Copy bookmarks to Autocomplete.
It will prompt you to confirm, then proceed with the transfer.
Once your bookmarks are transferred, just use the location bar as usual.
Install URL: Install AutoMarks 0.1
Jul 2008 NOTE: AutoMarks is DEAD. Firefox 3.0 now does this out of the box.(We recommend you upgrade to Firefox 3.0)

what about speed?

making it work in Deer Park/Firefox 1.5
Hi Colin
In Deer Park, a JavaScript object was renamed from "NC_NS" to "gNC_NS".
I found the extension worked in Deer Park Alpha 2 by editing content/automarks/automarks.js in the JAR file and changing the two occurrences of "NC_NS".
7-Zip on Windows makes editing of XPI and JAR files really easy. Just open the file, make the changes, save, then quit the editor and it will prompt to update the files inside the JAR file.
installation in Deer Park/Firefox 1.5
@amanuel
If you open the JavaScript Console, you'll notice the extension refers to a JavaScript object called NC_NS. Apparently this changed from NC_NS to gNC_NS in a recent version of Firefox.
I used 7-Zip to edit the XPI file and then the JAR file contained within and changed the two references in content/automarks/automarks.js then saved the file. I hope this works for you too.
Automarks in Deer Park Alpha 2
Hi amanuel,
I wanted to use your extension with Deer Park Alpha 2. After changing the max version to 1.2 in the install.rdf the extension installed but does not operate, it seems.
I'm not familiar with how extensions run but is there a way I could paste the function into Firefox somewhere and troubleshoot why it's not running.
(Or maybe you have a version upcoming or in beta......:)
Thanks,
Colin.
Update for Deer park?
Hiya,
I am testing Firefox Deer park. This extension does not work with Firefok Deer park alpha 2
Not all bookmark folders copied
The first 2 1/2 folders of bookmarks are copied to history for autocomplete, but the rest (maybe 10 more) aren't... Most of my bookmarks are in folders. Help!
AutoMarks - Built on the mac.
uhmmm Seiryoku, I built AutoMarks on my mac. It was working on the mac before it ever got on the PC.
I dont think josef still has a problem...10.3.7 made firefox act slower...but I have not noticed that issue in 10.3.8

re:
When I found this I thought my prayers were answered. The lack of a comprehensive autocomplete was my biggest beef with Firefox. Unfortunately each time I run it all I get is a spinning beachball on Mac OS X 10.3.7...
re:
Great extension! Any plans on releasing the code for it? We are currently developing some Autocomplete extensions, and I am curious to see how other developers handle bookmarks.
Thanks!
re:
This is a really nice extension. But I got these ideas:
1. An Autocomplete Manager - A simple manager that lets you remove autocomplete urls, and also block permission for adding new ones (with exception for ones added by AutoMarks).
2. Instead of having AutoMarks copy all of the bookmarks to the autocomplete list, it will copy only ones in a bookmarks subdirectory called 'AutoMarks' (or something similar). That way it's possible to filter wich bookmarks are sent to autocomplete. If possible, it could be nice if AutoMArks will automatically copy new bookmarks in the subdirectory 'AutoMarks' to autocomplete - That way, when I visit a page I want to add for autocomplete, all I have to do is add it to the 'AutoMarks' subdirectory.
